Your State Bank Multi-Currency Foreign Travel Card is valid until the expiry date printed on the front. When your State Bank Multi-Currency Foreign Travel Card expires, just take your Card, valid passport and PAN Card/Form 60 back to any participating branch of State Bank of India to redeem any unspent funds. Payment will be in Indian Rupees, please check with the branch for details of the exchange rate applied. A fee may also apply - please see the Fees and Limits Table in the fees and limits section of this website, or check with the branch for more information.
Please see the ‘Cash out and Close’ section below for options of redeeming your available balance and closing the Card before it expires.
CASH OUT AND CLOSE (BEFORE CARD EXPIRY)
If your Card is still valid, but you would prefer not to keep it for another trip, you can withdraw your remaining balance, whilst abroad, from an ATM displaying the MasterCard® Acceptance Mark (assuming the amount is within the ATM’s withdrawal limits). Alternatively, you can take your State Bank Multi-currency Foreign Travel Card (plus valid passport and PAN Card/Form 60) back to any participating branch of State Bank of India and they will refund any remaining balance in Indian Rupees (less any fees and subject to exchange rates).
If you decide to keep your Card for another trip, FEMA Regulations, as amended from time to time, currently require you to surrender unspent foreign currency within 180 days of your return. However, you are free to retain a certain amount of foreign currency (currently the limit is up to USD 2,000 or equivalent), for future use as per the FEMA limits, prescribed by RBI from time to time.
